Tech Support Scams Targeting Windows XP Users

XP users have no other choice but to subscribe to third party tech support services. Microsoft no longer provides tech support services for the XP OS. Many hackers and online scam artists are taking this opportunity to dupe the XP users by setting up fake websites online. Recently reported cases about the Omni Tech Support fraud websites are a good example of this trend.

Get genuine tech support for your XP system

World Wide Web is like that. It is full of scams, fake websites and fraudulent service providers. This has always been the same. But, in the past, it was much easier to spot the fake websites. The site would look very crudely designed and not like an official one of a genuine online service provider.

But, unlike in the past, you no longer need to invest much to set up a professional looking website. Website designing has become much easier with the advent of designer tools and ready-made design templates. In other words, it is very much possible to set up an Omni Tech Support fraud website that looks exactly like the official one and it would be very hard to distinguish between the two, if you are a first time visitor.

Since the end of Microsoft support, the XP users are searching online looking for affordable or free ad-supported tech support service plans. And, these online scam artists mentioned above are luring them in with claims of discount prices and quality services. Users are advised to exercise maximum caution when signing up for such tech support services online, especially before you give them your credit card information or make the payment online.

Do not just look at the rates offered; look also at the history of that tech support firm and how long they have been in the support service industry and so on. Also, make sure that you check their BBB rating. If this company is not even registered with the BBB network, then, maybe, you should skip that one no matter how cheap their service package is.

Such precautions are necessary, because at one time or another, you might have to allow these tech service professionals access to your system for repairing some issue. This is how most of these scam artists plant malware applications or steal the information stored in your computer.

If you want to sign up for a third party tech support service online, try OmniTech Support service, which has been in the industry for more than 10 years and has an excellent BBB rating.

About The Enterprise Mode In IE 11 On Windows 7 And Windows 8

Moving from one OS to a new one always creates many problems. Many of the XP users are facing such problems as they are migrating from the 13-year old OS to Windows 7 or Windows 8. Such users may refer to some of the OmniTech guides and articles posted on the site to help them with the transition.

Running enterprise applications that require IE 8 on Windows 7 or Windows 8

One of the problems reported by some enterprise organisations, which recently made the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8, was that they were not able to run some of the old enterprise applications in their new systems. According to Microsoft, many such applications are designed to run using the Internet Explorer 8 technologies. And, since Windows 7 or Windows 8 uses the latest IE 11 browser, these old applications might not work in these operating systems.

Apparently, Microsoft did come up with a solution for this problem. They are calling it the ‘Enterprise Mode for IE11’. Simply put, you can run IE 11 in the Enterprise mode to imitate many aspects of the IE 8 browser. This provides the software applications mentioned above an IE 8 browser environment to function without any problems. This way, the enterprise organisations can continue to use the same old software applications in the latest Microsoft operating systems like Windows 7 or Windows 8.

However, Microsoft admits that this might not work always and there could be some errors and problems when running a software application like this in the enterprise mode in a new Windows OS system. In other words, this should be seen as a temporary measure and you need to upgrade the software application to its latest version that will run in the latest browsers and operating systems.

For the time being, you can use this Enterprise mode or OS virtualization software for using old software applications designed for XP. As discussed in some of the OmniTech guides posted here, using OS virtualization software is one of the best ways to use old XP applications in Windows 7 or Windows 8. It creates a virtual XP OS environment within the new Windows OS and in this virtual OS, you can run all your old XP applications without worrying about any compatibility problems.

You may contact the OmniTech Support personnel if you have any doubts about setting this up in your system.

The process Of Repairing A Corrupt Outlook File

An email client like Outlook regularly updates the contents stored in its folders so as to sync the account folders in the mail client with that stored in the mail server. Internet connection interruptions and other problems often lead to file corruption of any one of these Outlook files. Normally, the issue is fixed the next time you update the Outlook folders. But, sometimes, this will not happen.

How to repair the file corruption error in Outlook

There are OmniTech guides with detailed instructions provided on the blog page to help you with most of the Outlook problems. But, in the case of Outlook file corruption, you might not require any external help. Outlook comes with an in-built Inbox Repair tool to deal with this particular issue. You can run this tool and fix the problem easily.

However, the tool is not shown as an option in the Outlook toolbar menu options. Instead, it is there in one of the Outlook or MS Office folders in your C Drive. Just search for Scanpst.exe in C Drive to locate it. But, you also need to know the location of the Outlook PST as well, if want to scan it using the Inbox Repair tool.

If you are using Windows 7, Vista or Windows 8, then the location for this PST file will be - C:\Users \username \AppData \Local \Microsoft \Outlook. Paste this link to the Windows Explorer address bar in the OS to take you there. Here, you need to replace the text ‘username’ with the username you are using for the OS. Paste this link in the Scanpst tool dialog box - %localappdata%\ Microsoft \Outlook.

Similarly, in the case of Windows XP and Windows 2000 versions, the location for the PST file will be - C:\Documents and Settings \username \Local Settings \Application Data \Microsoft\ Outlook. So, you need to paste the following into the Scanpst file location box - %USERPROFILE%\ Local Settings \Application Data \Microsoft \Outlook.

After pasting the PST file location correctly into the Inbox Repair tool, click on the Scan button to start detecting the errors in the file. When this is done, select the option to repair the errors. Microsoft recommends running the tool more than once to detect many errors that might not show up during the first scan.

For finding fixes to any other Outlook problems, you may search through the OmniTech guides and articles posted here. You may also contact the tech support personnel on the helpline number.

Procedure To Remove OpenCandy From Your Windows System

The problem with third party software is that every now and then, some undesirable programs may enter your system during the installation process. This usually happens because most people tend to overlook the check mark next to a recommended software install bundled with the particular third party software they want.

We may unwittingly click on next or continue without un-checking the recommended software install, which we do not want. These software programs can be annoying sometimes, as they make several useless changes to the customized settings in your computer. OpenCandy is such an annoying program.

This software exists for a specific purpose though. In this Windows tech support article, we will see more about OpenCandy and its removal.

What is OpenCandy

There are various ways to know that you are installing this clean up tool unintentionally. The easiest way to determine whether the installer uses OpenCandy or not, is to check for the OpenCandy EULA link in it. When this software programs runs in your system it collects information that includes version, country, location as well as the time zone.

OpenCandy should then end or terminate when you have completed the installation process of the software program no matter whether you accepted to include third-party offers or not. In case you have opted for some third-party offer, the OpenCandy helper application will run on your computer for a limited period. This happens mainly for verifying that the third-party offer was activated.

You need not worry though, as Windows tech support team highlights that there is an OpenCandy Cleanup Tool available online, which is specifically designed to remove any trace of OpenCandy from a Windows powered computer.

The interface of this cleaner tool is simple, which displays two buttons and a progress bar on start up. For initiating the system scan, all you need to do is to click on the start button. The progress of the scanning process is displayed on screen, so is the success or failure status message. This way, you will be able to know if the operation finished successfully or not.

Though the sly OpenCandy program may not stay in your system for long, you can anyway remove all its traces (if there is any) from your system by using the OpenCandy Cleanup Tool. However, if you bump into any issues while using the same, contact our tech support team for assistance.

Connecting Your Vista PC To A Wired Ethernet Network

Ethernet cables are one of the most commonly used forms of network cables on wired networks. These help in the connection of PCs, routers as well as switches.

If you’re running the Windows Vista operating system in your computer, you can easily connect to an Ethernet cable. For this, you need to have a hub or a switch and also access to a cable or a Cat 5/5 e network. According to the technicians at the Windows Vista help and support team, Ethernet networks don’t have the portability of wireless networks. But then, these cables are amazingly faster than all the traditional dial-up connections. Moreover, such Ethernet networks can also be shared by multiple computers.

You can use the following instructions provided by the Windows Vista help and support team to connect your PC to a wired Ethernet Network in your Vista computer.
  • At first, you’d require obtaining a Cat 5 or Cat 5e Ethernet cable for every computer you want to connect. Cat 5 is a kind of cable used for data transfer that is used for high-speed access. For buying a Cat 5 cable, you can contact your local computer or even the office supply store.
  • Next, you can try purchasing a hub or switch with enough ports for each computer in your home or office. Using switches can increase the speed of the network, but they cost a little more than a hub. But then, investing more in buying switches is generally recommended to experience their high-end performance. If you’re using a company network, opting for a router is also considered beneficial.
  • Now, you can shut down all computers as well as the switch/hub to use the Ethernet cables. Try connecting them to each of the computers to be connected to the hub.
  • You need to first plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the switch or hub and then connect the other end into each PC's network adapter.
  • Once you have connected it, try turning on the switch or hub. Now, turn on your computers.
  • Now, wait for the computer to start and then run the Network Setup Wizard to get your network get connected and start working.
By following these steps, you can easily connect your Windows Vista PC to a Wired Ethernet Network. To get more assistance in setting the connectivity, feel free to contact our Windows technical support personnel.

Microsoft Urges Users To Install Windows 8.1 Update To Receive New Patches

If you have not updated your operating system with the latest Windows 8.1 update, you may not be lucky enough to receive the latest patches from Microsoft intended to fix the vulnerabilities associated with Internet Explorer. Among the seven different bulletins, the major one is aimed to fix IE issues and others are for addressing the 59 other vulnerabilities.

One of the questions on Microsoft Security Blog made by Dustin Childs was "Does a vulnerability make a sound if it never gets exploited?" To this, the software giant responded, "When we become aware of a potential security issue, we work to fix it regardless of whether or not it is under active attack. In other words, it doesn't matter if that falling tree makes a noise; we still have an action to take." Keep in mind that there were a large number of queries regarding the new patches.

Windows Vista help center says the update is not for all. The software giant has made it clear that only those users who have installed the Windows 8.1 update released in April could install the new patches. The last date for enterprise customers to update the operating system with the update is August 12. Within this date, they should upgrade their operating systems from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1U. At first, Microsoft had set this period to be 5 weeks. However, due to large pressure from various corners, the company decided to extend this date further by three weeks. It was May 13 then. However, it was further extended to June 10 before the end of the stipulated date.

According to Windows Vista help center, the new set of patches has 59 CVEs. Out of these 59 CVEs, 21 are to fix bugs in Internet Explorer 8. As you cannot compromise on the security of your internet browser, it is important that you upgrade your operating system with the Windows 8.1 Update and then install these updates. The new update is available to download from the official website of Microsoft. Once you install these updates, your operating system could receive all future updates without any restrictions.

After the end of support for Windows XP, many customers had updated their computers with Windows 8 operating system. However, with the release of Windows 8.1, which was made available free to the Windows 8 users, many of them upgraded to it. Now, this is the latest in the series of updates, which is mandatory for the smooth running of the operating system.

What To Do If Outlook Is Not Working

It widely acknowledged that Microsoft Outlook is the most widely used personal manger program in the world. The best feature of it is its inbuilt email manager, which people use for managing their email. Microsoft tries hard to keep the program free from corruptions and attacks by releasing updates every now and then. But Outlook will throw issues at you at some point of time. Here we discuss some simple steps that you should take for fixing some of the common ones.

The very first thing that you need to do if you cannot start Outlook or when you get an error message, is to find the real reason for the occurrence of error. In most situations, the error might be caused just after installing a new component to the system, like a toolbar or add-in. Often updating your software might lead to such error. You need to find out what all changes you made to the system after a successful run, and before the occurrence of error message.

So it is advised that you find the problem that has caused the error and revoke those changes for fixing the issue with the Outlook program. Usually the error would fade away and you will not get the error message or face a situation where you cannot start Outlook.

A slow or inactive internet connection may also cause problems. So make sure that the computer is connected to the internet, and that the connection is uninterrupted when you’re online. If it’s inactive, disable the connection and re-enable it to see if that’s enough to get outlook to connect.

You may still get the error message even if you have an active internet connection, due to the issues on the email provider’s side. Call them up and see if that’s the case, so at least you know there’s nothing to be done from your side.

Maybe you’ve changed the password for the email account, and forgot to make the same change in Outlook. If so, update the password so the client can login successfully. Also, make sure that the Outlook settings are well configured and all settings are correctly made. It only takes one of the fields containing the wrong details for you to be barred from accessing mail.

Some virus attacks might also lead to issues with the email client. So find the real reason behind the error, and fix the problem accordingly. If you are having trouble fixing the issue, feel free to contact our Outlook support team.

Procedure To Completely Shut Down Your Computer In Windows 8

Windows 8, the latest Windows operating system, is amazing when it comes to the boot speed. There is something called Fast Boot, which allows the OS to boot much faster than any Windows OS you have known and seen until now. For making this possible, Windows 8 is set by default not to actually shut down when you click on the Shut Down option; it hibernates instead. Now, if you want to know what this is, we need to know Hybrid Shutdown part of the equation. Now, the Fast Boot part, as mentioned earlier, involves Windows 8 starting very quickly when you turn on your computer. Multi-core processors and Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) do help in filliping Fast Boot.

In the previous Windows versions, if we look at the hibernation file, it was huge, because all application data, device drivers and kernel are stored in this file. Now, the file is much smaller and so the boot/load time is reduced.

In case you are not aware, the Fast Startup in Windows 8 is by default enabled. Now, for checking this, you can go to the Power Options in Control Panel. Then in the option you need to scroll down and look for a box checked Turn on fast start-up. If you do not see this checkbox listed, this it is because the hibernation option is not enabled. In Windows 8 you can enable hibernation by going to command prompt and then entering the following command:

powercfg /hibernate on

When the box (when you go to Power Options) is visible and checked, you can shut down your Windows 8 system completely, and there are three ways to do this.
  • Go to Power Option and disable Fast Startup.
  • Restart you computer instead of performing a shut down.
  • Open an elevated command prompt and type the following command: shutdown /s /full/t 0
It may seem weird to you, restarting in Windows 8 is not the same you have seen in previous Windows versions. In Windows 8, when you restart, the OS will perform a complete shutdown, followed by a cold boot.

So, you have seen the various methods available to perform a complete shutdown of Windows 8.

For more information on Windows 8 problems or Windows 8 in general, you can go to the official website. Information on various Windows 8 problems is also available on the Internet for you to refer.

Windows 8 Start Menu To Return Sooner Than Expected!

It seems Microsoft has finally understood the fact that it cannot afford to slow down, thanks to its rivals Apple and Google who are continuing to provide better and more popular alternatives. Microsoft was used to releasing a new operating system every three years, which was later revised to pushing out major updates every year. But now, it seems the next major update will come as soon as August or September.

Ever since the release of Microsoft Windows 8, users were crying hoarse about the lack of the user friendly Start screen. Keyboard and Mouse users were not at all impressed with the Windows 8 Metro Start screen, so much so that few hardware manufacturers have discarded Windows 8 and brought back Windows 7. Among all the Windows 8 problems, the Metro Start screen was a major oversight which Microsoft sat upon for a long time, expecting users to get used to it.

During the first update of Windows 8.1, Microsoft teased the audience with a Windows 7 style Start menu, along with windowed Metro apps, but later mentioned it will only be available in a future update, much to the dismay of its users. Even three years after the release of Windows 8, Microsoft has failed to dismantle the broken and hated feature yet again.

Just when the users had resigned to the fact that the Start menu will not be available till April of 2015, Russian leak website Wzor.net leaked the information that the update 2 would come much earlier than expected. Given that Wzor was right about several previous leaks, this source is fairly reliable.

Windows 8.1 Start menu looks like a hybrid of Windows 7 Start menu and the present Metro based Windows 8 Start screen. The usual apps list, folder hierarchy, and search box will be present on the left and live tiles on the right. It is presently unsure if the Live tiles will be configurable. Another major development will be the Windowed Metro app which will let us minimize them to the taskbar, resize them, and drag them freely between monitors. But the fact remains; these metro style applications remain hard to operate with keyboard and mouse.

Even though a common user would be glad to hear about the frequent updates, this would be seen as another one of Windows 8 problems by business establishments which are used to the slow Windows release cycle. This used to give them plenty of time to test and plan rollouts for hundreds and thousands of computers.

How To Protect Windows To Go Drives With BitLocker

Windows To Go is a new technology developed from the house of Microsoft, it is an initiative from the Redmond based company for making the work while-you-go concept easier and smoother. With the Windows To Go feature, you will be able to use and work with your data from anywhere in the world. It is a new feature embedded with the latest Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition. The best thing about the feature is that all you need to have is access to your settings in the drive is to have a computer that can support the Windows 8 drivers.

From this system, you will be able to get all the features of the Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition. However, there is a single issue that you need to be worried about, what will happen if the drive gets stolen? Well in that case, there is nothing to worry as you can use the BitLocker encryption feature in the Windows 8.1 operating system for encrypting the drive, so that even if someone stole your drive, he or she will not be able to get any information from the drive.

The BitLocker program will provide the drive high security by encrypting it using either a 128-bit or a 256-bit encryption. Usually the BitLocker program makes use of the Trusted Platform Module for authenticating boot pathways and for protecting encryption keys. However since this is not possible with a Windows To Go Drive, the program makes use of a user defined password for protecting the data in the drive. If you wish to use the Windows To Go workspace on a computer, then you must first provide the password for the BitLocker program. Only if the program recognizes the password will you be able to use the workspace in the Windows To Go drive.

If you are planning to use a Windows To Go Drive then the first thing you need to make sure is that the computer with which you are planning to use the drive has support for Windows 8 drivers as you will be using Windows 8.1 interface when the program is launched. Also, be sure that you have enabled the security of the disc by encrypting it with BitLocker. If you do not have any encryption, then there is high risk involved.

Microsoft Office For iPad Update Includes Printing Feature

After many public requests, Microsoft Office for iPad team released an update, which added Apple’s AirPrint support. This support enables users to wirelessly connect with printers and print out the documents they created on Office. This feature was left out when Microsoft Office for iPad was first released.

Apart from AirPrint support, this update includes SmartGuides for PowerPoint and AutoFit for Excel, which will improve the appearance of content and improve readability in both apps. While SmartGuides allow easy mobility of images, charts, etc around a presentation slide, AutoFit for Excel helps you adjust the height of multiple columns and width of rows at once.

Microsoft’s Office for iPad suite was released as three different apps: Word, PowerPoint and Excel and users will have to update each app separately using the Apple App Store. Microsoft Office for iPad is available as a free App on Apple App store but users require Microsoft 365 account to use this app.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription based software service suite which enables you access to various software and services. Initially released for business and corporate purposes, Microsoft recently launched a Personal plan for single users. Once subscribed, Personal users can avail a host of services, which include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access for non-commercial use on one PC and one Windows 8 tablet/Apple iPad, 20 GB of OneDrive storage, and 60 minutes of Skype international calls per month.

Microsoft was quick to release the update, considering this update was available for a mere thirty-three days after the public release on Apple’s App store. Soon after the release of the app, the design team had public interaction with netizens through Reddit. This interaction was aimed at getting feedback about the app.

During the Interaction, when asked to make the App completely free and remove the Office 365 license feature, Kaberi Chowdhury, a Technical Product Manager for the Office for the iPad suite said, “We believe that you get the best up to date Office experience [in] the Office 365 subscription”.

Microsoft app received moderately high positive reviews when it was released. It got twelve million downloads the first week itself, which is higher than what Microsoft had anticipated. Following this reaction, rival companies Google and Apple may release new updates or apps. Apple iWorks is free and preinstalled in all Apple devices and Google’s Docs (Also free) are available for download in Android App market.

Mozilla And Opera Announce Extension Of Support For Windows XP

Microsoft has announced the end-of support for Windows XP by 2014. However, now several competitors including Google have come forward to extend the support for their products that run on the aged operating system. Now, Mozilla has also announced about providing support for the 12-year-old platform after Microsoft stops it this year.

Mozilla is one of them. The main reason cited by the Mozilla support for them extending services, is that even after the release of modern operating systems, Windows XP still remains the most popular among Windows the OS versions. According to Johnathan Nightingale, the company is said to have no plans to discontinue support for XP. Interestingly, another major software firm, Opera, has also declared they’ll be providing support, after Microsoft pulls out. Google has assured to release regular updates and security patches for Windows XP until April 2015. However, while contacted the technicians at Mozilla support did not mention about the kind of service they would offer to the XP users. Still, what Microsoft saw as a strategy to promote Windows 8 and 8.1 may be looking to backfire.

According to the recent reports by NetMarketShare, Windows XP and Windows 7 remain the most preferred versions by the Windows users. As compared to these, Windows 8 and 8.1 lag far behind and can be termed as a failure. The interesting fact is that most of the IT firms prefer XP over newer versions, owing to its simple and advanced features. With Microsoft ending support, the only option available for these organizations was to upgrade their systems. However, now, with companies like Google, Mozilla and Opera extending their services, XP users can breathe better. Microsoft has already advised them to switch over to the latest versions to avoid issues regarding security threats. It is a fact that once Microsoft stops providing service to XP, the operating system would become an easy target for hackers across the globe. It would be easy to exploit the vulnerabilities of the operating system once it has no protection from Microsoft. But Google has offered several updates that would keep the operating system safe from security issues. With such options available, XP users would only stick on to their favorite OS instead of opting for an upgrade.

Such announcements from its competitors would definitely force Microsoft to take preventive measures in order to regain supremacy. But how far the software giant would be successful at this is to be seen.

Microsoft Makes The Day One Update Available For Xbox One

Xbox One has been in news for quite some time. Earlier this month, online media discussed greatly about the possibility of a day-one offline update for the console. But, later on, the tech giant decided not to provide the offline update citing potential update issues. However, it came up with another pleasant surprise new - that the users would be able to update their console in about 15-20 minutes on the first day. The tech giant assures that there would not be any web traffic issues on the launch day as it has employed multiple servers to facilitate the day one update for millions of users across the world.

Earlier it was reported that the day one update download would probably take hours due to the expected heavy online traffic. So, many users thought that they could only start using their favourite Xbox One console only after a couple of days when the traffic lessens. Well, Microsoft has realised the concerns of the users and acted accordingly. According to Marc Whitten, the chief platform Architect of Xbox One, “We are optimizing Xbox One so that the day one update is as fast as possible. While we’re still finalising the details, we expect that the download will take between 15 and 20 minutes for most users”.

Surprisingly enough, the Microsoft chat support network has not confirmed whether it meant the downloading of the day one update files or the installation time by 15-20 minutes period. If what it meant was the installation time, then users might still have to wait for a long time for downloading the updates.

Why does the day one update for Xbox One matter?

The mandatory day one update for Xbox One has confused the users and many think that it is unnecessary. However, Microsoft recommends the day one update. It is reported the day one update would come with many firmware tweaks. Moreover, the DRM policy and online check requirements call for a mandatory day one update for Xbox One. Sony’s PS4 (PlayStation 4) also had the day one update. However, Sony also offered the offline update option and reports indicate that more than 60 percent of the PS4 users made use of the offline update.

Whatever be the technical sides of day one update, the Xbox One fans across the world are eager to try the new console. According to the Microsoft chat network, they receive hundreds of calls every day regarding the Xbox One console and the day one update.

Microsoft Releases Office Apps For The IPhone And IPad Users

The Apple IPad and IPhone have for long tried to use the Microsoft Office applications like the Outlook mail client on their mobile device. However, there would always be some compatibility issues between these two rival companies’ softwares. There were some means available to these users, using which they can indeed access their Outlook accounts and folders online.

The Outlook Web Access

Many Outlook users have been using the Outlook Web Access option while using Microsoft Outlook. This is essentially a browser-based service that goes around the compatibility issues with the operating system. If you have say, an Outlook mail client account in your desktop, you would not be able install the same application on the IPad or IPhone. However, if you go to the Microsoft Office Help webpage to look for a solution, you would be directed to the Outlook Web Access link.
Using Outlook Web Access, you would be able to log in to the Outlook mail server, where all your Outlook data like the Outlook Calendar, Outlook Contacts and of course, the Outlook Inbox and Outbox mail messages, would be stored. This is very similar to the web mail service in a way, considering the username and password log in screen.

Microsoft Apps for IPad and IPhone

However, using Outlook Web Access meant that you would not be able to access Outlook data when you are offline. This was indeed an inconvenience to many using the IPad and IPhone, who had Outlook accounts. Now, Microsoft has come up with a solution.
Microsoft Office apps are now available for the IPhone and IPad operating systems. They are apps in the real sense, and the Outlook app allows the users to access the Outlook folders even while offline. This is certainly a relief to the Outlook users, who had to rely on the Outlook Web Access, so far.
However, there is a catch. You would have to subscribe to the Microsoft Office 365 software subscription package. This is no surprise. Microsoft applications are not freeware. Neither is Microsoft Outlook irrespective of whether you are using it on the Windows OS or Apple’s
iOS.
Many Windows OS users had not realised this so far, as they were using the Outlook mail client that came bundled with the Windows operating systems. The IPad and IPhone users need to pay a subscription fee, if they want to use the Microsoft Office applications. Visit the Microsoft Office Help webpage for the details.

Windows 8.1 To Have Huge Impact

Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS was unable to get huge sales when it was released. User complained of many issues, and of lack of comfort navigating the new interface. In response, Microsoft made some serious changes to the OS and released the Windows 8.1 operating system. Reviews of the new OS have been great but the question remains: will it be able to boost sales?
Probably one of the most needed and vital changes that Microsoft implemented in the latest OS was the return of the Start button. The absence of this was very annoying for users who were happy with the traditional interface. The re-included Start button does not open the Start menu however, only the Start screen. Right clicking this button opens tools like Task Manager and Control Panel, among other tools. In addition, Windows 8 allows users to boot directly into the desktop interface, instead of the Start screen. The latest version also has loads of customization and personalization tools, a new search tool, and a redesigned Xbox Music, with an easier to use interface.
Charles King principal analyst and Pund-IT has a few keen insights about the potential impact of the revamped Windows 8 OS, "Going back to the Start menu and making the tile interface an option on the task bar is probably what the company should have done in the first place." King added. "It makes the Windows 8 environment much friendlier for businesses and a lot less disruptive than the original version."
But that’s not all Windows 8 may see more additional boots and upgrades in the coming year. Currently the operating systems function on Intel Ivy Bridge-processor PCs, laptops and tablets. However many analysts believe that the next generation Haswell Processor systems that are to come out this fall will definitely help the OS shine. "The overall performance and new features on those systems and the commonality of the touch interface will be so powerful -- and frankly kind of cool for many users -- that whatever questions they may have had about Windows 8 will fade into the background," King added. "Windows 8 on a Haswell system will be a pretty seamless experience."
As King points out, one of the biggest reasons that Windows 8 did not fare well initially, was due to its optimization for use on tablets and other touch sensitive devices. Navigating with the mouse is awkward and difficult which is probably why users were not very keen on migrating to Windows 8. The new Windows 8.1 is sure to change a lot. To learn more about navigation and other features of Windows 8, you can look up on the Windows help menu in Windows8. Windows help will also provide solutions for issues. Get your hands on the at least Windows OS, which is a free upgrade from the Windows Store.
